Rev. Brown answered the call to ministry in May of 1991, where he functioned as an Exhorter for six months. In November of that same year, Rev. Brown rendered his trial sermon, entitled “Preventive Maintenance of Your Soul.”
In 1992 Rev. Brown was licensed to preach as a Local Preacher by the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
In 1994 Rev. Brown graduated from The Hartford Seminary’s Urban Ministries Program. It was also in this same year, during the month of September; Rev. Brown was afforded the opportunity to receive his first Pastoral appointment at Resurrection AME Zion Church in New Britain CT.

At the 1995 New England Annual Conference of the AME Zion Church, Rev. Brown was very surprised to be given his second Pastoral Appointment. It was a blessing all the more to be given the appointment to his home church; McCall Memorial AME Zion. Under the leadership of Rev. Brown, McCall Memorial AME Zion Church grew tremendously. Rev. Brown pastored McCall for 14 years 1995-2009.
In 2002 Rev. Brown spearheaded an effort to bring together Black Clergy of different denominations. This resulted in the birth of the Concerned Black Clergy Council of Waterbury, where Christian denominations work together to assure that the African- American Citizens of Waterbury have a voice in the community and the political process, while being able to lift up the name of Jesus .
In the same year Rev. Brown was hired by the Conference of Churches as The Director of Strategic Partnerships; the White House point of Contact for all Faith-based activity in the State of CT. This organization currently has a network of 5000 churches throughout the state.
In June of 2009, under the unction and direction of the Holy Spirit, Rev. Brown answered the call to start a Non-Denominational church called Burning Bush Family Life Center. This church is currently thriving and growing in Kingdom Building.
Rev. Brown is also very active in his community. Some of his involvement include: Community Ministries - A former member of the Waterbury Juvenile Review Board.
He is a past a member of the Black Democratic Town Committee of Waterbury, a former delegate to the State Democratic Convention, a former member of the Local & State NAACP executive board, a member of the Governor’s taskforce to stop Violence in CT, a member of the CT Fatherhood Advisory Board, former President of the advisory board to the North end of Hartford’s Catholic Charities Urban Family Center, President of the Waterbury Coalition for a Better Government, board member of Community Partners in Action of CT. A member of Democratic Town Committee of the 72nd District, and lastly a board member of the CT Community Foundation.
Rev. F. Lydell Brown 3rd, resides in Waterbury CT with his Lovely Wife, Lady Faye Brown, their three lovely daughters Quineshia, Chelsea Wilson, Shardae and grandson Ameir, 4 years old.
